🎬 A Prophet Remembered for Truthfulness

The Qur’an gives us only a small number of details about Idris, and that is important to say clearly. A trustworthy Islamic storybook should never turn a few verses into a made-up adventure. What Allah tells us is enough to give Idris a special place in the hearts of believers.

❓ Should we add made-up adventures to the story of Idris?

In Surah Maryam, Idris is described as a man of truth and a prophet. The Qur’an also says that Allah raised him to a high station. In Surah Al-Anbiya, Idris is mentioned among those who were patient and righteous, together with other servants of Allah. These short descriptions create a strong picture: Idris was truthful, patient, righteous, and honored by Allah.

❓ In which Surahs is Prophet Idris mentioned?

Some later historical writings attach many details to Idris, such as claims about particular inventions, exact occupations, or the first use of certain tools. Those reports are not all equally reliable. A children’s book should therefore separate what is certain from what is only traditional. The certain lesson is already rich: a person can become great in Allah’s sight through truthfulness, patience, and faith.

Imagine an ancient world before modern libraries, phones, or printed books. Knowledge was precious. People depended on careful memory, spoken teaching, and whatever forms of writing were available in their societies. In such a world, a truthful teacher would be deeply valuable. Idris is remembered in revelation not for wealth, power, or a famous kingdom, but for qualities inside the heart.

Truthfulness means more than avoiding obvious lies. It means being a person whose words can be trusted. It means admitting when you do not know something. It means refusing to spread rumors just because they sound exciting. It means doing what you promised even when no one is watching. A child who learns this lesson is practicing one of the qualities for which Idris was praised.

❓ What does truthfulness include besides avoiding lies?

Patience is another major lesson. The Qur’an places Idris among patient servants. Patience does not mean doing nothing. It means staying steady while doing what is right. A student needs patience while learning. A family needs patience during difficulty. A believer needs patience when worship feels hard or when other people make fun of what is right. Idris’s short Qur’anic description becomes a doorway to a big lesson: steady goodness matters.

❓ What does patience mean for a believer?

What does it mean that Allah raised Idris to a high station? The Qur’an does not provide enough detail for us to describe exactly how this happened, so the safest approach is to repeat the Qur’anic wording without adding a dramatic scene that revelation does not give us. Children can learn an important research skill here: when a source does not tell us something, we do not pretend that it does.

This makes Idris’s chapter different from the chapters of Nuh, Musa, Yusuf, or Muhammad ﷺ, whose stories contain many more events. That difference can actually be fun. Idris’s chapter can become a “mystery of what we know and what we do not know.” Children can sort fact cards into two groups: “Qur’an tells us this” and “Not established.” That activity teaches both faith and careful thinking.

The miracle spotlight in Idris’s chapter should therefore avoid inventing a physical miracle. His prophethood itself and Allah’s honoring of him are enough. The focus should stay on revelation, truth, patience, and righteousness.

At the end of the chapter, invite the reader to imagine a “truthfulness challenge.” For one day, speak carefully. If you are unsure, say, “I’m not sure.” If you make a mistake, correct it. If you promise to finish a task, complete it. That simple exercise turns a short ancient story into something a child can practice today.

❓ What is the 'truthfulness challenge' task?

Idris teaches us that a person does not need a long biography in order to leave a powerful message. A few truthful words from Allah can be more valuable than hundreds of invented pages. His story encourages children to love what is certain, respect what is unknown, and build a life on honesty and patience.

✨ Miracle Spotlight

The Qur’an does not specify a physical miracle for Idris. It does tell us that he was a truthful prophet and that Allah raised him to a high station.

🌙 Pause & Imagine

Close your eyes for ten seconds and imagine the environment from this story without imagining the prophet’s appearance. What do you hear: wind, animals, water, tools, footsteps, or a busy marketplace? What colors would the sky, stone, sand, wood, or plants have looked like? The goal is to enter the setting while keeping the prophet respectfully unseen.

💡 Did You Know?

Prophetic stories in the Qur’an are not arranged as one ordinary history textbook. The same prophet may appear in several surahs, with each passage highlighting a different lesson. That is why good storytelling should connect verses carefully instead of pretending every detail appears in one place.

    🌟 Famous Stories

    A Man of Truth 📖 Qur'an

    Maryam 19:56-57

The Qur'an mentions Prophet Idris, peace be upon him, very briefly but with great honor. In Surah Maryam, Allah says, "And mention in the Book, Idris. Indeed, he was a man of truth and a prophet. And We raised him to a high station." This shows us how much Allah loved him and how special he was. He was known for being completely truthful and sincere in everything he did, which is why Allah calls him a "siddiq," a man of truth.

The phrase "We raised him to a high station" is very important. Islamic scholars have discussed what this means. Some say it refers to his high rank and honor among all the prophets and with Allah in Jannah (Paradise). Other scholars, explaining this verse, mention traditional reports that he was physically raised into the heavens, similar to how Prophet Isa (Jesus), peace be upon him, was raised. This was a unique honor given to him by Allah.

The story of Prophet Idris, peace be upon him, is a powerful lesson. It teaches us that being truthful and completely obedient to Allah earns a person a very special and high place in His sight. His life is a reminder for us to always be honest and dedicated to our faith, knowing that Allah rewards the righteous.

💡 Lesson: Being truthful and devoted to Allah earns a person great honor and a high rank.

    ❓ Quick questions

    Question 1 / 3

What two qualities does the Qur'an use to describe Prophet Idris (peace be upon him)?

The Journey to the Heavens ❔ Traditional report

Reported in classical tafsir (e.g., Ibn Kathir) and Qisas al-Anbiya

A famous story from traditional sources is told about Prophet Idris, peace be upon him, and his journey to the heavens. It is said that he had a special friendship with an angel. One day, Prophet Idris asked the angel to take him to see the heavens. The angel got permission from Allah and carried him up. During this journey, they met the Angel of Death.

Prophet Idris, peace be upon him, then expressed a wish to experience death, so he could be more grateful for life. By Allah's will, the Angel of Death took his soul for a moment and then returned it. Afterwards, Idris wished to see Hellfire, to increase his fear of Allah, and then Paradise, to increase his longing for it. He was shown both. When he entered Paradise, he did not want to leave.

The Angel of Death told him it was time to go, but Idris, peace be upon him, explained that Allah has written that every soul shall taste death (which he had), and that everyone will see the Hellfire (which he had), and that those who enter Paradise will never leave. So, by Allah's permission, he remained there. This is one traditional explanation for how Allah "raised him to a high station."

💡 Lesson: Devotion to Allah can lead to extraordinary blessings and a special place in the Hereafter.
