A Kingdom, Gratitude, and the Language of Creatures
🎬 A Kingdom, Gratitude, and the Language of Creatures

Sulayman was the son of Dawud and inherited knowledge and kingship. Allah gave him an extraordinary kingdom unlike ordinary human rule. The Qur’an describes the wind being placed at his service, groups of jinn working by Allah’s permission, and Sulayman understanding communication from birds and even an ant.

❓ What unique gift did Allah give Sulayman regarding living creatures?

One day Sulayman’s armies were moving through a valley of ants. An ant warned the others to enter their homes so they would not be crushed without Sulayman and his forces realizing it. Sulayman smiled at the ant’s words and thanked Allah for His blessings.

This tiny scene is one of the most child-friendly moments in the Qur’an. A king with a vast army still notices an ant. Power did not have to make him careless.

Another famous story involves the hoopoe bird. Sulayman noticed the bird’s absence and later received news from it about a kingdom ruled by a woman, commonly called the Queen of Sheba. The bird reported that the people worshiped the sun instead of Allah.

❓ Which specific bird brought news to Sulayman?

Sulayman sent a letter calling them to submit to Allah. The queen consulted her advisers rather than rushing into war. She sent a gift, but Sulayman was not trying to become rich; his concern was faith.

❓ What was Sulayman's main concern when contacting the Queen?

Eventually the queen came to Sulayman. Before her arrival, a remarkable event occurred: her throne was brought to Sulayman with extraordinary speed by one who had knowledge given by Allah. Sulayman did not boast. He said that this was from the favor of his Lord to test whether he would be grateful.

When the queen entered a palace area with a floor that looked like water, she realized the greatness of what she was seeing. More importantly, she recognized her previous error and submitted to Allah, the Lord of the worlds.

Sulayman’s kingdom also involved jinn who worked on building projects, diving, and other tasks. The Qur’an is clear that Sulayman did not practice disbelief or teach magic. Later accusations connecting him with sorcery are rejected.

❓ What does the Qur’an say about Sulayman and magic?

At the end of Sulayman’s life, the Qur’an tells a striking story. He died while leaning on his staff, and the jinn did not realize he was dead until a creature of the earth ate through the staff and his body fell. This demonstrated that the jinn do not know the unseen.

❓ What creature helped reveal that Sulayman had passed away?

The miracle spotlight includes the wind serving Sulayman, his understanding of creatures, and the extraordinary abilities Allah placed within his kingdom.

Picture prompts can show a valley full of tiny ant tunnels viewed from above; a hoopoe flying over an ancient kingdom; a sealed royal letter; a magnificent throne in a distant palace; wind-filled sails and architecture suggesting a kingdom moved by powerful winds; jinn-built structures represented abstractly without monstrous stereotypes; and a wooden staff beside a quiet throne room at the end of his life.

An “ant challenge” can ask children to notice something small that adults often ignore: an insect carrying food, a tiny crack where a plant grows, or a quiet classmate who needs help.

A “gratitude test” can repeat Sulayman’s own attitude: every talent, tool, opportunity, or achievement can be a test of whether we become thankful or proud.

Sulayman’s story is full of wonder, but the most important miracle may be the moral one: a king with enormous power kept saying that his blessings came from Allah. Children can enjoy the wind, birds, ants, throne, and palace while learning that the best response to something amazing is not “Look how great I am,” but “Alhamdulillah.”

✨ Miracle Spotlight

Allah subjected the wind to Sulayman, gave him understanding of creatures, and granted extraordinary features to his kingdom.

🌙 Pause & Imagine

Close your eyes for ten seconds and imagine the environment from this story without imagining the prophet’s appearance. What do you hear: wind, animals, water, tools, footsteps, or a busy marketplace? What colors would the sky, stone, sand, wood, or plants have looked like? The goal is to enter the setting while keeping the prophet respectfully unseen.

💡 Did You Know?

Prophetic stories in the Qur’an are not arranged as one ordinary history textbook. The same prophet may appear in several surahs, with each passage highlighting a different lesson. That is why good storytelling should connect verses carefully instead of pretending every detail appears in one place.

    🌟 Famous Stories

The Hoopoe and the Queen of Sheba 📖 Qur'an

    An-Naml 27:20-44

Prophet Sulayman, peace be upon him, had a vast kingdom given to him by Allah. He could command armies of jinn, humans, and birds. One day, while inspecting his army of birds, he noticed one was missing: the hoopoe. Prophet Sulayman, peace be upon him, said he would discipline the bird for its absence unless it came back with a good reason.

Soon, the hoopoe returned. It told the prophet that it had discovered something he did not know about. It had flown to a land called Saba' (Sheba) and found a powerful queen who ruled there. The hoopoe explained that the queen and her people were worshipping the sun instead of Allah. To test the hoopoe's story, Prophet Sulayman, peace be upon him, gave it a letter to deliver to the queen.

The letter invited the queen and her people to worship the one true God, Allah. After discussing it with her advisors, the queen decided to visit Prophet Sulayman, peace be upon him, in person. When she saw the magnificent kingdom and great wisdom Allah had blessed him with, she realized the truth. She declared that she now believed in Allah, the Lord of all the worlds.

💡 Lesson: We should use the abilities Allah gives us to invite others to the truth.

    ❓ Quick questions

    Question 1 / 3

Which bird was missing from Prophet Sulayman's army?

The Valley of the Ants 📖 Qur'an

    An-Naml 27:18-19

One day, Prophet Sulayman, peace be upon him, was traveling with his huge army, which included jinn, men, and birds, all marching in perfect order. Among the many special gifts Allah had given him was the ability to understand the languages of animals and other creatures.

As the army came near a valley where many ants lived, Prophet Sulayman, peace be upon him, overheard one of the ants shouting a warning to the others. The ant said, “O ants! Enter your homes so that Sulayman and his soldiers do not crush you without realizing it.” The ant was being careful and looking out for its community, and it knew that the huge army might not even see them on the ground.

When Prophet Sulayman, peace be upon him, heard the tiny ant's words, he smiled. He felt deep gratitude for the amazing blessings Allah had granted him. He immediately turned to Allah in prayer, thanking Him for His favors and asking for guidance to always do righteous deeds that would be pleasing to Him.

💡 Lesson: We should always be grateful to Allah for His blessings, no matter how big or small.
