Calling People Away From Idol Worship
🎬 Calling People Away From Idol Worship

Ilyas was a prophet sent to people who had fallen into worship of a false deity called Ba‘l. The Qur’an records his challenge: would they call upon Ba‘l and leave the Best of creators, Allah, their Lord and the Lord of their forefathers?

❓ What was the name of the false deity mentioned in the Qur’an?

The Qur’an does not provide a long chronological biography of Ilyas. It does not tell us his childhood story, exact travel route, or a list of personal miracles. Therefore his chapter should focus on the clear Qur’anic message.

Imagine a community surrounded by religious customs that everyone has followed for years. Large gatherings, familiar rituals, and powerful leaders all reinforce the same belief. Then Ilyas stands against the current and asks a simple question: why worship something created instead of the Creator?

❓ What simple question did Ilyas ask his community?

Many people rejected him, but the Qur’an says that Allah left for him an honorable mention among later generations and includes peace upon Ilyas. That is an extraordinary kind of legacy. A person can be rejected in his own time yet honored by Allah forever.

The miracle spotlight should be honest: no specific physical miracle is described in the Qur’an for Ilyas. His prophethood and the preservation of his message are enough.

❓ What specific physical miracle for Ilyas is described in the Qur’an?

For pictures, show an ancient Levantine landscape with stone terraces and olive trees; a large deserted idol temple; storm clouds over hills; a simple path leading away from crowded shrines; and a peaceful sunrise to symbolize truth remaining after false worship fades.

This chapter can include a “creator or creation?” sorting game. The app displays sun, moon, tree, mountain, animal, star, statue, and human invention. Children drag all created things into one box and reserve worship for Allah alone.

Another activity asks children to identify modern forms of unhealthy devotion—not worship in the legal sense, but things people can let control their hearts: popularity, money, likes, brands, or winning. The lesson is not to call these things idols automatically, but to ask whether anything is becoming more important than obeying Allah.

Ilyas also teaches courage in a minority. Sometimes “everyone does it” is used as proof that something is acceptable. But truth is not decided by headcount.

❓ According to the story, is truth decided by how many people believe it?

The chapter can end with a simple exercise in respectful disagreement. A child practices saying: “I respect you, but I cannot do that because I believe it is wrong.” This mirrors prophetic firmness without rudeness.

Ilyas’s story is short, but its central message is enormous: worship belongs to Allah alone. A noisy culture can surround a person, but the heart can still choose truth.

Deeper Reading: Standing Alone Without Becoming Harsh

Ilyas’s story is a useful place to teach children how to be confident without becoming rude. A believer may sometimes be the only person in a group who refuses a wrong action. That can feel lonely. The prophetic method is not to become insulting, arrogant, or cruel in return. Ilyas challenged false worship because truth mattered, not because he enjoyed humiliating people.

A child might experience a smaller version of this when classmates want to cheat, bully someone, make an inappropriate joke, or pressure others into breaking a rule. Courage can sound like, “I’m not comfortable doing that,” or, “I’m going to sit this one out.” It can also mean finding a trusted adult.

The app can offer a role-play where children choose between three responses: rude attack, silent participation, or respectful refusal. The best answer is the one that protects faith and manners together.

Another useful lesson is that inherited tradition must still be examined. Respecting parents and elders does not mean every old custom is automatically correct. Ilyas called people back to the Creator even though their false worship had become familiar. Islam teaches respect for family while making Allah’s guidance the highest standard.

❓ What is the highest standard according to Islam?

For source literacy, remind readers that the Qur’an gives only a concise account of Ilyas. The book should never pretend to know his exact house, age, route, or private conversations. Sometimes the strongest story is the one that refuses to invent.

✨ Miracle Spotlight

No specific physical miracle is described in the Qur’an for Ilyas. His preserved prophetic message is the focus.

🌙 Pause & Imagine

Close your eyes for ten seconds and imagine the environment from this story without imagining the prophet’s appearance. What do you hear: wind, animals, water, tools, footsteps, or a busy marketplace? What colors would the sky, stone, sand, wood, or plants have looked like? The goal is to enter the setting while keeping the prophet respectfully unseen.

💡 Did You Know?

Prophetic stories in the Qur’an are not arranged as one ordinary history textbook. The same prophet may appear in several surahs, with each passage highlighting a different lesson. That is why good storytelling should connect verses carefully instead of pretending every detail appears in one place.

    🌟 Famous Stories

Prophet Ilyas and the Idol Baal 📖 Qur'an

    As-Saffat 37:123-132

Prophet Ilyas, peace be upon him, was one of the messengers of Allah. He was sent to a group of people who had forgotten the true message of worshipping one God. Instead of praying to Allah, they worshipped a big idol they had named Baal. Prophet Ilyas, peace be upon him, came to them with a clear and simple message: to fear Allah and return to the straight path. He reminded them that Allah is the only one who deserves worship, not a statue made by human hands.

He challenged his people with a powerful question. He asked them, "Will you call upon Baal and leave the best of creators – Allah, your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers?" This was a reminder that Allah created them, their parents, their grandparents, and everyone before them. How could they turn away from their Creator to worship something that could not create, hear, or help them? But his people were stubborn. The Qur'an tells us they rejected him and his message.

Because they refused to listen, Allah warned that they would be brought for punishment on the Day of Judgment. However, Allah always protects His sincere servants. The believers who followed Prophet Ilyas, peace be upon him, were saved from this fate. For his patience and dedication, Allah blessed Prophet Ilyas, peace be upon him, with a good reputation and honorable mention that would last among all the generations to come, which is why we still tell his story today.

💡 Lesson: We should always worship Allah alone and never associate partners with Him, no matter what others around us are doing.

Prophet Ilyas and the Young Al-Yasa ❔ Traditional report

Reported in classical tafsir (Ibn Kathir) and Qisas al-Anbiya

Traditional Islamic sources tell us a story about a difficult time for Prophet Ilyas, peace be upon him. After the king and most of his people rejected his call to worship Allah, he had to go into hiding to stay safe. During this period, he sought shelter in the home of a kind woman. This woman had a son named Al-Yasa who was suffering from a very serious illness. Seeing the mother's sadness and the boy's pain, Prophet Ilyas, peace be upon him, felt great compassion for them.

As a prophet of Allah, he knew that the only one who could truly cure the sick was Allah Himself. So, Prophet Ilyas, peace be upon him, turned to Allah and made a sincere prayer, or du'a, asking Allah to heal the young boy. By the will and mercy of Allah, the prayer was answered, and Al-Yasa was completely cured of his sickness. His health was fully restored, which brought immense joy and relief to his mother and was a clear sign of Allah's power.

From that day forward, Al-Yasa, who would later become a prophet himself, stayed very close to Prophet Ilyas, peace be upon him. He became his dedicated student and follower, traveling with him and learning everything he could about the message of Allah. Al-Yasa never left his side. When the mission of Prophet Ilyas, peace be upon him, was complete, Prophet Al-Yasa, peace be upon him, was chosen by Allah to continue the important work of calling the people to worship the one true God.

💡 Lesson: Allah can bring good out of difficult situations, and we should always seek knowledge from righteous people.
