🔮 What Do You Already Know?
No pressure — just guess! This helps you see how much you grow.

Yaqub, also known as Israel, was the son of Ishaq and the grandson of Ibrahim. He was a prophet and the father of a large family, including Yusuf. Much of what children learn about Yaqub comes through the story of Yusuf, where Yaqub appears as a loving father, a wise believer, and an extraordinary example of patience.
❓ What was the other name Prophet Yaqub was known by?
Yusuf once told his father about a dream in which he saw eleven stars, the sun, and the moon bowing before him. Yaqub understood that the dream was important. He advised Yusuf not to tell his brothers, fearing jealousy. This shows a form of wisdom children sometimes overlook: not every good thing must be announced to everyone.
❓ How many stars were in Yusuf’s dream?
The brothers eventually became jealous of Yusuf and plotted to remove him. They persuaded their father to let Yusuf go with them. Later they returned at night crying and claimed that a wolf had eaten him, presenting his shirt with false blood. Yaqub recognized that their story was not right. He did not explode in uncontrolled rage. Instead, he said he would have beautiful patience and seek Allah’s help concerning what they described.
“Beautiful patience” does not mean a person never feels sad. Yaqub felt deep grief over Yusuf. The Qur’an describes his eyes becoming white from sorrow. He held his grief inwardly and complained of his suffering and sadness only to Allah. That makes his story especially meaningful for children who have experienced loss, separation, or worry.
❓ To whom did Yaqub complain of his sadness?

Years later, Yaqub faced another painful separation when Yusuf’s full brother, often identified in tradition as Binyamin, was detained in Egypt. Once again Yaqub responded with patience and hope. He told his sons not to despair of relief from Allah.
That sentence is one of the great lessons of his life: believers can be sad without becoming hopeless.
Eventually the brothers returned with Yusuf’s shirt. When it was placed on Yaqub’s face, his sight returned by Allah’s permission. The family then traveled to Egypt and reunited with Yusuf. The dream from long ago was fulfilled in a respectful scene of honor.
❓ Whose shirt was placed on Yaqub's face?
Yaqub also appears near the end of his life asking his sons what they would worship after him. They answered that they would worship the one God, the God of Ibrahim, Ismail, and Ishaq. This shows what mattered most to Yaqub as a father: not wealth or reputation, but faith.
❓ What did Yaqub care most about for his sons?

The miracle spotlight includes the restoration of Yaqub’s sight connected to Yusuf’s shirt by Allah’s permission and the long fulfillment of Yusuf’s dream. The chapter should not treat the shirt as a magical object; the healing happened because Allah willed it.
Picture prompts can show a night sky filled with eleven stars, the sun, and the moon; an old desert home with an empty doorway suggesting Yusuf’s absence; a folded shirt arriving from Egypt; a caravan traveling toward Egypt; and a warm palace courtyard prepared for a family reunion—with no prophet depicted.
A powerful activity is the “hope thermometer.” Children list a hard situation at the bottom and helpful responses up the scale: make dua, talk to a trusted adult, take a good next step, be patient, remember Allah’s mercy. The activity shows that patience is active.
Yaqub’s story teaches that love can hurt when people are separated. It also teaches that grief and faith can live in the same heart. He did not pretend everything was fine. He cried. He missed Yusuf. He felt pain. Yet he never stopped trusting Allah.
The chapter ends by reminding children that hope is not the belief that every problem will disappear quickly. Hope is trusting that Allah sees the whole story even when we can see only one difficult page.

Allah restored Yaqub’s sight in connection with Yusuf’s shirt. The long-ago dream of Yusuf was also fulfilled exactly as Allah willed.
🌙 Pause & Imagine
Close your eyes for ten seconds and imagine the environment from this story without imagining the prophet’s appearance. What do you hear: wind, animals, water, tools, footsteps, or a busy marketplace? What colors would the sky, stone, sand, wood, or plants have looked like? The goal is to enter the setting while keeping the prophet respectfully unseen.
💡 Did You Know?
Prophetic stories in the Qur’an are not arranged as one ordinary history textbook. The same prophet may appear in several surahs, with each passage highlighting a different lesson. That is why good storytelling should connect verses carefully instead of pretending every detail appears in one place.

The Scent of Yusuf's Shirt 📖 Qur'anSurah Yusuf 12:93-96
After many long years of sadness, a moment of hope finally came for Prophet Yaqub, peace be upon him. His sons were traveling back from Egypt, and they carried a special gift from their long-lost brother, Yusuf. It was Yusuf’s own shirt, and he had told them to take it back to their father. They did not yet know the miracle it held.
Even before the caravan arrived home, Prophet Yaqub (peace be upon him) told those around him, "Indeed, I find the scent of Yusuf." The people with him were surprised. They thought that after so many years of grieving, he was just confused or lost in an old dream. They could not understand how he could possibly smell a scent from so far away.
But Prophet Yaqub's feeling was real, a gift from Allah. When the bearer of good news finally arrived and cast the shirt over his face, a miracle happened. Prophet Yaqub’s eyesight, which he had lost from years of weeping and sorrow, was immediately restored. He could see again! He then reminded his family, "Did I not tell you that I know from Allah that which you do not know?"
💡 Lesson: Allah can bring relief and joy in unexpected ways, so we should always have hope in Him.
❓ Quick questions
Question 1 / 3
What did Prophet Yaqub (peace be upon him) sense before his sons arrived?
Entering Through Different Gates 📖 Qur'anSurah Yusuf 12:67
When the sons of Prophet Yaqub, peace be upon him, needed to travel back to Egypt, their father was concerned for their safety. They were a large group of strong brothers, and he was worried that if they all entered the city together, they might attract unwanted attention or jealousy from people, which could lead to harm.
So, being a wise father and a prophet of Allah, he gave them some careful advice. He said, "O my sons, do not enter from one gate but enter from different gates." This was a practical plan to avoid drawing attention to themselves. By splitting up and entering the city separately, they would blend in with the crowds instead of standing out as a single, large group.
However, after giving this practical advice, Prophet Yaqub (peace be upon him) taught them an even more important lesson. He reminded them that his plan alone could not protect them from anything Allah had already decreed. He said that the final decision belongs only to Allah. He finished by saying that he puts his trust in Allah, and that all those who trust should place their trust in Him.
💡 Lesson: We should make wise plans but always remember that our ultimate trust must be in Allah.
